Concert Program

Putting together the concert program for the Saint Patrick's Day Concert was similar to making the flyer for the show. We did not have any experience with creating this kind of document. So, after receiving the information from Cory Jensen we began looking for ways to make the program. Using Google to find templates was unsuccessful. However, after a search of the Microsoft word templates we were able to narrow down our choice of templates to the one seen below named General Program Template.

Placing the names and songs into the template proved a bit difficult as it seemed that the template wasn't designed with a musical concert in mind. Or at least it wasn't designed with flexibility in mind. We kept running into problems with the formatting as we were trying to get the songs and the names lined up just right. The quick fix we were able to figure out was to make a change, and then do an immediate undo action. It was a very odd problem.

On the last page of the program we were left with some empty space. As we talked about what would to do with the space we decided to put information about the bands. For Ben Lomond it wasn't too difficult as we have been focusing on them. We were able to tap into Chris's knowledge of the Bagpipe Corps, in addition to information from Mr. Jensen, to select information for a short paragraph. Synkofa on the other hand was a bit more difficult.

Using their websites about section, Synkofa About, we had to narrow down a full page of artist Bio's and information about the band to a paragraph. First, we each read through the information on our own. Once we had completed that we talked about which parts were useful in describing Synkofa, and started putting the pieces together for a solid paragraph about the band.

The hardest part about selecting the information was that we needed to select bits that were interesting enough. Putting a link at the bottom of a piece of paper is a pretty sure way to have that link ignored. Our goal was to select a good hook to get people to go out of their normal behavior and go to the website. Sending traffic to the Synkofa website is not the goal of our project, but if the guest band playing with Ben Lomond feels like they are being properly represented they may want to come back and play again.
